The Living Cube – Multifunctional furniture

The Living Cube is multi-purpose minimalistic furniture that is perfect for small spaces. The design is the brainchild of Switzerland-based designer Till Könneker. He created the design when he moved into a small studio apartment that had very little storage space. With his creation, he found space for his vinyl collection, TV, clothes, and shoes and also incorporated a guest bed on top of it. It has a modular design and there are three ideas presented on their website: The Urban Cube, The Living Wall and The Mini Cube.

“I wanted to focus on practicality and functionality and skip any unnecessary elements. My goal was to come up with a timeless design that fits any space and living situation,” Könneker said. “A house is not really flexible but we can re-think the space and furniture inside. I believe useful furniture must be adapted to the needs of the user.”

Small kitchen design ideas & inspiration

Fact: Your kitchen is the heart of your home. It is the best indicator for the tidiness and cleanliness of the place you live. Keeping it clean and all shiny is not enough to make it a good kitchen.

What is a good kitchen?
A good kitchen is a place where you can cook meals at peace in heart, join your family members in evenings for chitchats and have tea while engaging in casual conversations. It is not an easy task to maintain a kitchen clean and tidy given that kitchen is a place where water is spilled, vegetables are cut and various foods are cooked. If your problem is the small space available in your kitchen, it’s about time you had re-designed it.
Making the best use of available kitchen space requires a bit of extra thinking. Sort out what happens in the kitchen in your daily routine. If you look closely, you will realize that it is pretty much the same activities that are repeated day after day, except in special occasions. Identify what you really need and what you don’t. Keep only the most used, necessary utensils in the kitchen and remove the rest. For an example, you might need the blender only once in a while whereas the toaster is used in almost every morning.

Simpler the better
Keep it simple and it will stop getting constantly messy. In most homes, kitchen is the most stuffed and sophisticated place. Keeping it less stuffed with ample space to move will make kitchen activities go smoothly with no complaints.
Use every space possible, even the walls. Open shelves are a good solution for a small kitchen. Place all the dishes and other utensils nicely, prioritizing them according to the frequency of use. At the same time, you can go for a simple kitchen cabinet. Organize your kitchenware not the way you want, but the way you use them. Soon you will find your kitchen a rather amusing place to be. Space is not an issue where there is correct organizing and management.

Looks are also important
Match the kitchen with the theme of your home. Think of the entire kitchen as one solid unit. Choosing the right colour for the walls can be challenging. Open shelves leave more wall space still exposed when not stuffed. Use a bright color for walls in such cases, which will add sophistications and dimensions to your kitchen.
